looking for inspiration...

I have an upcoming show. It's organized by the Burnaby Arts Council and will be shown at Deer Lake Gallery in Burnaby.

My piece will be one of many 12"x12" ‘Art Projects in Support of the 2009 World Police & Fire Games‘. All of the art works have to have something to do with "fire". It can be literal or just reflective of a thought or feeling associated with fire. I love the idea of this show and I am really looking forward to seeing the vast outcome of all of the artists involved. It is fascinating to me, the great differences people see and feel in what can literally be viewed as the same thing.

I have not decided on the fate of my 12x12 panel yet...still looking for inspiration and time!

Sweet Inspiration

I long for you my sweet inspiration
Misplaced amidst the daily confusion.
I withdraw to thoughts of you and I
Harmonious and free,
As though a ravenous strength has devoured
My anxious self and ascended me to all I can be.

The air cools, the dreary brightens
My solitaire self no longer frightens.
Adaptation of lament to creation
How I long for you my sweet inspiration.

desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for there will always be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be. And what ever your labors and inspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

the beginning...

I just wanted to start documenting my progress into my lifelong dream to become a full time artist. I've made many baby steps over the past 20years, but the steps are getting alot bigger and I'm looking forward to every positive movement towards making this dream a reality. So this is me cutting the ribbon and popping the champagne ( notice I'm not breaking the bottle...blasphemy!)
